I found a new love in India!

Who could’ve guessed when I came to India that I’d find my true love. Okay Jeremy before you call the divorce lawyer let me introduce you to this angel.

Meet Joey - a 3 month old Shih Tzu

We were originally supposed to stay in New Delhi with my mother’s sister but she fell ill and just got back from an extended stay at the hospital. So we are here instead with my mother‘s niece and her son who are very generous and hospitable with their time and space!

We’re still in Delhi, but just another suburb. This is a beautiful neighbourhood. And the condo complex we’re staying in is part of a gated community that has 24 hour security even when the gates close and lock for the night. It’s very interesting idea because there is a lot of family type of activity that takes place at night on the grounds of the condo complex. Kids and their families hanging out together within their community engaging in all the activities the place has to offer - such as, tennis courts and badminton courts, designated places to rollerblade and skateboard and play structures and benches and gardens, and apparently even a fountain and some peacocks scattered around. They have their own grocery store and beauty salon. You just have to order whatever you want at the grocery store and they will bring it up to your apartment for you.

I can never get over the conveniences in India (if you can pay for them). A woman comes every day to make tea and clean the place and do the laundry. I can only imagine what she thinks of the houseguests. Probably that we’re lazy nut jobs, obsessed with a small dog. Well she’s not here to judge (I hope!). She’s got her job and I’ve got mine which is to relax and do as little as possible except cultivate a relationship with the new love of my life.

So last time we stayed with my mother’s sister in Noida in a very older styled apartment. Noida is a suburb of New Delhi and in 2011 it had a population of about 1 million. At that same time, the place we’re currently staying whose name I can’t remember cause it recently changed had a population of 1.5 million and so you get an idea of how densely packed we’re talking about. These are small suburbs of the metro city of New Delhi which had an estimated population in 2023 of 33,000,000. That’s basically the population of Canada, in one tiny city. It becomes a bit mind boggling if you think too much about it.

So we’re not gonna think about it a lot quite yet which is why I spent the first day at the complex basically resting, trying to adjust to the time change which I haven’t done at all which is why I’m sitting here at 3:30 in the morning writing this. Tomorrow, our plan is to venture outside the compound and see a little bit of this unknown recently renamed place.

In the meantime I have to cultivate my new love. He needs me and his cuteness is hard to resist.
